Whereas, the free software ideology embodied in the GNU licenses is a Great Thing that shall one day save humankind from all suffering. Whereas, the statement "software should be free" is one case of the more general but equally true "everything should be free." Whereas, such a general statement is the basis of socialism, which is similarly a Great Thing that will one day be the salvation of the human race. Unfortunately, socialism has not yet been established anywhere in the world. And whereas, socialism cannot properly coexist with capitalism, and I still need money to obtain food and shelter: Therefore, where the GNU GPL or LGPL would limit my ability to derive income from what is virtually a full-time job, I will use other licenses such as the X11 (modified BSD) license, one of the Creative Commons licenses or my own share-alike license: the Open Non-Commercial License, which is based on one of the licenses for the Intel C Compiler. This is very uncommon however, and anything that is not free software carries a conspicuous notice to that effect. And yes, I have explored other open source business models. I can always switch to a free software license later if it seems practicable. Read the Socialist FAQ before arguing with me on politics, if you please.
